Today we marked International Women’s Day with a series of important and meaningful events across our community. This morning, a group of Lower Sixth boys visited Bedford Girls’ School to join discussions with Fourth Form pupils about sexual harassment, respect and responsibility. These honest conversations are a crucial part of helping our boys understand the impact of their actions and the role they can play in creating safer, more respectful communities. We then came together with Bedford Girls’ School for a collaborative assembly. Together, we reflected on how far society has come in advancing gender equality while recognising that there is still much more to do. Our message was clear: ▶ Equality must be embedded in everyday life. ▶ Progress happens when everyone plays their part. ▶ Change becomes lasting when it becomes normal. In an all‑boys school, it is especially important to highlight the inequalities that still exist and to empower our boys to be part of the solution championing respect, fairness and positive change in every environment they step into. A huge thank you to @bedfordgirlssch for welcoming our boys, presenting assembly with us and for sharing in such a valuable and inspiring day. #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2026 #GenderEquality #Respect #PositiveChange #WeCanAllMakeADifference #BedfordSchools #GiveToGain

Earlier this week, our Chapel Choir had the incredible privilege of singing Evensong at Ely Cathedral, one of the most iconic and awe‑inspiring sacred spaces in the country. The choir spent the afternoon rehearsing under the expert guidance of Mr Aldhouse, Organist and Director of Music at Ely Cathedral, who helped prepare them for a beautiful and moving service. A huge well done to all the boys for representing the school with such confidence and discipline. An unforgettable experience in a spectacular setting. 🎶 #ChapelChoir #Evensong #ElyCathedral #ChoralTradition #SchoolMusic #ProudMoment #ChoirLife #Musicianship

Nine boys recently took part in the prestigious Lockheed Martin Programming Competition, an international challenge held across multiple UK sites. Competing in the Advanced category in Ampthill, our team delivered an outstanding performance, finishing 2nd place in an incredibly tight race. They led for much of the event before being overtaken in the final seconds by a school from Watford! Their achievement reflects the strength of our thriving Competitive Coding Club, run twice weekly by Mr Forrester, Head of Computer Science. As well as writing code, the club builds problem‑solving, logic, resilience and the kind of thinking essential in an AI‑shaped future. Plans are already underway to introduce the same model in the Prep School to strengthen our coding pathway. Huge congratulations to our competitors, especially Lower Sixth Formers George, Mihai and Rhys, whose teamwork and determination shone throughout the day. #CodingCompetition #CompetitiveProgramming #LockheedMartinComp #CodingChampions #UKSchoolsCoding

Over half term, Year 10 boys Max, Arthur, Fin, Aarnav and Michael took on the Formula 1 in Schools Challenge at Aston University, the finale to weeks of design, engineering and testing. They built a Bedford School‑branded F1 mini‑car using CAD software, manufactured it in DT, tested it in the Physics wind tunnel, presented to judges… and raced! 🔧🏁 This was our first year competing, and the boys have come back full of ideas for next year. Here's what they had to say: Max: “I loved learning the CAD processes and making the car.” Aarnav: “We learned real teamwork, especially presenting together.” Read the full article in the link in the bio. #F1inSchools #STEMEducation #FutureEngineers #BedfordSchool #YoungEngineers #DesignTechnology #STEMChallenge #EngineeringInAction #StudentInnovation #Formula1Project #STEMLearning #TeamworkInAction #bedfordschool

Our Floreat academic enrichment boys are taking part in an eight‑week Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) project with Dr Adam Preece from the Aircraft Research Association (ARA). The course, 'Introduction to Aerodynamic Simulation', gives the boys a hands‑on look at how computers model airflow around things like cars, boats and aircraft. Using ANSYS CFX software, they’ve been learning new skills, completing guided tasks and asking plenty of questions to an industry expert with 20 years of experience. We’re excited to see how they get on over the coming weeks and there may even be a trip and an awards celebration at the end of term! #Floreat #AcademicEnrichment #STEMEducation #EngineeringInTheMaking #FutureEngineers #AerospaceEngineering #ComputationalFluidDynamics #CFD #ANSYS #ARA #BedfordSchools #LearningInAction #STEMOpportunities

At the weekend, two teams of Upper School boys headed to the historic Cambridge Union for a full day of fast‑thinking, high‑level debating. With just 15 minutes to prepare each motion, and nothing but their own ideas to rely on, the boys delivered four rounds of five‑minute speeches, tackling topics ranging from “This House supports developing nations’ right to burn fossil fuels” to “This House would rather be the heir than the spare.” This was our first time entering a competition in this format, and it was inspiring to see how quickly the boys adapted. After rapid debriefs between rounds, their improvement from the first debate to the last was remarkable. They represented the school brilliantly with their manners, sportsmanship and hard work. Results as follows: 👏 Ralph (Lower Sixth) & Aryan (Lower Sixth) placed 33rd out of 56 teams 👏 Charles (Upper Sixth) & Charlie Baker (Lower Sixth) placed 38th 👏 Out of 112 individual speakers, Ralph ranked 37th A huge well done to all four boys and a big thank‑you to the parents who travelled to support them throughout the day!

Project Snowdrop 🌱2026 is underway! After two successful years of groundbreaking work, this year’s cohort has officially begun their journey into our unique DNA research project, and what an inspiring start it has been. Earlier this term, boys travelled to Anglesey, collecting 16 different Snowdrop samples. Back at school, the boys took part in two lab‑based sessions, isolating chloroplasts and extracting DNA from each sample. Next stop was Rothamsted Research, where they stepped inside a commercial laboratory for the next phase of their project. Hosted by Dr Stephen Pearce and his colleague, the boys were guided through advanced scientific protocols, including: 🔬 Using a nanodrop machine to check for the presence of DNA 🧪 Purifying their Snowdrop samples 🧬 Loading their samples onto a MinION DNA sequencer, a highly precise technique using extremely small liquid volumes They also toured several of the research growing facilities and saw first‑hand some of the pioneering work being done on genetically modified wheat. This is an extraordinary opportunity for the boys to engage with real‑world science at the cutting edge, and they rose brilliantly to the challenge. #ProjectSnowdrop #BedfordSchool #FutureScientists #STEMEducation #DNAExtraction #Genomics #PlantScience #MolecularBiology #HandsOnScience #RealWorldScience

We were delighted to welcome Andrew Hall, former South African Test cricketer, to school for a specialist Pace Bowling Master Class with our Upper School cricketers. Now a sports teacher at Milton Keynes Preparatory School, Andrew shared his wealth of international experience both as a fast bowler and an accomplished batsman, putting our players through an intensive and inspiring session. The masterclass covered: 🏏How to bowl effective slower balls 🏏Hitting a consistent line and length 🏏Executing yorkers with precision 🏏Tactics for bowling to left-handers They also talked about the importance of focused practice - mastering one skill at a time. The boys gained valuable insights from a true professional, and left the session motivated and ready to take their bowling to the next level. A huge thank you to Andrew Hall for giving our players such a fantastic opportunity! 🏏👏 #Cricket #PaceBowling #FastBowling #CricketCoaching #BowlingMasterclass #CricketTraining #CricketSkills #CricketDevelopment #FutureCricketers #AndrewHall #SouthAfricaCricket #FormerInternational

Well done to Upper Sixth Former Lucian for organising a two‑part Financial Workshop for his year group. His efforts brought in Ethan Waller and George Davey from @titan.pi Pensions & Investments, who delivered two brilliant, real‑world finance sessions. From understanding tax and National Insurance on payslips to comparing car finance options (PCP vs HP), and explaining credit cards and APR. These are invaluable skills that will help equip the boys to make informed, confident decisions about money in the years ahead. Thank you to Ethan and George for taking the time to come and talk to us. #FinancialEducation #MoneySkills #FinancialLiteracy #RealLifeLearning #LifeSkills #MoneyManagement #FinanceForTeens
