160th Bedford Regatta ➡ Record times ➡ Serious momentum. With National Schools’ Regatta just days away, last weekend felt like a real marker moment for the Boat Club with all the hard work the boys have put in over the colder months clearly paying off. Here are some highlights:
🚀 Record-breaking in Nottingham
The 1st VIII set the tone early, topping the time trial before storming the final in 5:52.1 - a stunning performance and believed to be a new Bedford School 2000m record.
🔥 Dominant on home water
Back in Bedford, they carried that form into the top band eights beating Latymer and Eton before powering past a strong Barcelona/Phoenix composite crew (featuring OBs and senior athletes) to win by 1.5 lengths. Composed, clinical and seriously impressive.
💪 Strength across the boat club
2nd VIII: Double winners, beating Eton, Latymer, Abingdon and a Phoenix crew of OBs
Colts A: Narrow loss to Radley, then bounced back to win Band 3 against university crews
J15s: Edged out in the semis by just ¼ length
J14s: A crew reached quarters, B crew made the final
Next stop: National Schools’ Regatta. 🚣💪 🙌

What an inspiring day in Oxford for the boys packed with insight and exploration. From a tour of Wadham College and an insightful admissions talk, to hearing first-hand what tutors are looking for, the boys came away with a clearer understanding of how to nurture their academic curiosity and stand out as candidates.
After lunch at the vibrant Gloucester Green market, a student-led tour of Jesus College brought university life to life, with a first-year undergraduate sharing an honest and engaging perspective. A lovely moment of Bedford connection too, as an Old Bedfordian, spotting the boys’ blazers, stopped to chat and reminisce.
The day finished with a city tour led by OB Ed Lamb, former captain of the Oxford lightweight rowing team, who spoke about balancing academic ambition with elite sport - a powerful example for the boys. And, fittingly, we ended at Blackwell’s bookshop, where many picked up reading to stretch their thinking beyond the classroom.
A valuable, informative and thoroughly enjoyable trip, one that has certainly sparked ambition for the road ahead. 🎓✨

A huge thank you to our outgoing Heads of Houses for everything they have given over the past year. The boys in this photo represent just some of the many boys who have stepped up to lead, and they have done so with real commitment and care for their houses. Whether it’s been driving things forward in competitions and sports events, or simply being there day-to-day to support and encourage others, they’ve played a big part in shaping the spirit of their communities.
What has been especially great to see is how much they’ve grown as individuals along the way, building confidence, learning how to lead different personalities and setting the tone for the boys around them. They have embodied their house values in a genuine way and have been positive role models for younger pupils to look up to.

As part of our Upper Sixth Lecture Series, we were delighted to welcome @richardfullerbedfordshire, MP for North Bedfordshire, to school for an engaging and thought-provoking talk on the role of politics in today’s society and the impact it has on the way we live. Following his address, boys took part in a lively Q&A, asking insightful and wide-ranging questions, from the possibility of a Conservative–Reform coalition, to the sustainability of the state pension and the future of the student loan system, as well as the political thinkers who have shaped his own views.
A valuable opportunity for our boys to engage directly with contemporary political issues and gain first-hand insight into public life. Our sincere thanks to Richard for giving his time so generously and for such an inspiring and open discussion.

Huge congratulations to our incredible Bedford School Mo Bros, who were crowned ‘Team Fundraiser of the Year’ at last night’s @bedfordindependent Independent Everyday Heroes Awards, held in the Quarry Theatre 🏆 . From the unforgettable Movember Ball, which launched the campaign with an amazing £10,000, to weeks of creativity and collaboration that helped raise a record-breaking £45,259, this was fundraising on an extraordinary scale. But just as powerful was the awareness they generated — encouraging boys and men to check in, speak openly and support one another.
Collecting the award along with his fellow MoBros Sam and Sammy, Upper Sixth Former Henry reflected on both the honour and the evening itself, “It means a huge amount to win this award as it brings even more awareness to men’s mental health through Movember. The awards ceremony itself was brilliant, bringing people into the limelight like that was amazing and I really enjoyed it. It was a huge achievement to win, but even if we hadn’t, the whole evening is something we’ll remember for life.”

Huge congratulations to the five Bedford School boys who represented Olney RFC at the weekend in a superb National U18 Cup Final, emerging 24–19 winners over Winslow (Cheshire) at Sixways Stadium to be crowned national champions for the second year running.
To win this title once is an achievement, to defend it and retain their status as the best U18 side in the country speaks volumes about the team’s quality and determination across the season. From left to right: Raff, Owain, Justin, Ollie and Sammy — we are incredibly proud of you all for playing your part in such a significant victory on a national stage.
A special mention must go to Justin, whose stunning try in the clip was a real moment of brilliance. An outstanding performance from Olney RFC and a fantastic reflection of the talent, teamwork and character of these boys.
Also in the slide deck is Lower Sixth Former Henry, who made his debut today playing for the East Midlands RFU U17 PDG where he scored a try against Buckinghamshire.

We were delighted to welcome celebrity chef @dipnaanand into school for a truly flavour‑filled visit. Dipna spent time with boys throughout the day, speaking to them about food, culture and the importance of being open to trying new flavours. Morning break was a particular highlight, with freshly cooked naan bread and refreshing mango lassi enjoyed by boys.
Dipna also worked closely with our fantastic kitchen team to create a delicious Punjabi‑inspired lunch menu, including butter chicken, fluffy pilau rice and a comforting rice pudding. As a lasting legacy of the day, she shared a selection of recipes with the team, which we’re excited to see appearing on menus soon including tandoori chicken burgers and samosa chaat.
A huge thank you to Dipna for visiting the school and sharing her passion and love of Indian food with our community. 🌶️
