The annual Leavers XI v Head Master's XI match once again brought together boys, staff, parents and Old Bedfordians for a memorable afternoon on the 1st XI pitch. This year's fixture featured a special return from Old Bedfordian and England cricketer Emilio Gay (11-18), who turned out for the Head Master's XI alongside his younger brother, Simeon Gay (19-21). Adding to the occasion, former England captain and Old Bedfordian cricketing great Sir Alastair Cook (98-03) was among those watching from the boundary.
A strong batting display saw the Head Master's XI post 258-8 before securing an 81-run victory over the Class of 2026. More importantly, the match once again celebrated everything that makes this end-of-term fixture so special - great cricket, lasting friendships and the coming together of the Bedford School community.

Today our IB boys are celebrating a spectacular set of results with half of the cohort achieving 40+ points out of a possible 45, with an average score of almost 38 points – significantly above the global average of 30.5. The most common Higher Level grade awarded was a 7, equivalent to an A* at A-Level.
These exceptional results reflect the boys’ hard work, intellectual curiosity and ambition, supported every step of the way by dedicated staff and the wider Bedford School community.
Congratulations to all ten boys on their success. Featured in the photo gallery are Ansel, Tristan and Max, who each scored 40+ points and have secured places at the University of Oxford to read Law, Geography and German respectively.

⚽️ Congratulations to Fourth Former Will, who has earned a two-year contract with the U14 Queens Park Rangers FC Academy. Having played football since the age of five, Will has worked tirelessly towards this opportunity and he described finding out he had secured his place as a "huge relief" and a moment that made all the hard work worthwhile.
As a boarder, Will has found that life in the boarding house has helped him settle quickly, build strong friendships and develop the independence and resilience needed to balance the demands of school life alongside a busy sporting schedule.
He has also benefited from the physical training and gym sessions that have helped support his football development. He also represented the school football team during the spring term.
Next year will see Will balancing his studies with the demands of academy football, training five times a week and competing in matches every weekend. A fantastic achievement, Will – we wish you every success on the next stage of your football journey. 👏

🏆 Congratulations to Upper Sixth Former Henry, who has been ranked No. 1 in the UK for U20 Fencing – a remarkable achievement and the culmination of years of dedication and hard work.
Henry's rise to the top has been shaped by a series of fine margins, from a dramatic 15–14 victory that secured his place in the national squad to earning selection for the European Championships by just a single ranking position. Each step built confidence and experience, helping him climb to the top of the rankings.
Reflecting on his journey, Henry believes that mindset is just as important as ability: "You have to genuinely believe that you are capable of competing with the people around you. Feeling that you belong can make a huge difference."
Henry also praised the support he has received at school, where staff have helped him balance the demands of elite sport and academic study, ensuring he could continue to thrive both on the piste and in the classroom. As a boarder, he has benefited from a structured and supportive environment that has helped him manage the competing demands of training, travel, competitions and academic commitments, while the strong sense of community within the boarding houses has provided encouragement throughout his journey.

Henley Royal Regatta Day 2 - Our 1st VIII continued their Henley campaign with another “phenomenal", technically disciplined performance on Day 2. Reading Blue Coat had promised to make this a much closer contest, and they certainly delivered on that expectation.
Bedford once again seized the race from the go with an aggressive start, moving out to a ¾‑length lead and setting the early tone. Undaunted, Reading Blue Coat held steady, forcing the boys to dig deep, hold their rhythm and trust their boat speed under real pressure.
The crew showed superb composure, maintaining control and refusing to yield. Even after a late catch just before the line, Bedford kept their shape and crossed ahead to secure a hard‑earned and greatly-deserved victory.
It was another mature, brilliantly executed race, and we are hugely proud of the crew as they progress to Day 3.

Our 1st VIII launched their Henley campaign in superb fashion with a commanding victory over Eton College in the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup. The Bedford crew went out with real purpose, to put themselves in control of the race from the first strokes. Their powerful rowing established a clear lead early, and once in front, the boys settled into a composed, smooth rhythm that allowed them to move confidently away down the course.
Congratulations to everyone on a mature, courageous row that looked both aggressive and assured, and one that sees them progress impressively to the next round.
