In line with Bedford School’s values, we challenge our boys to develop their intellectual curiosity, to ask questions, to broaden their knowledge and intellect, and to be aware of the world beyond the school.

We support them in their endeavour to develop informed opinions and independent minds; whilst also equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need to realise their personal ambitions and aspirations. Each boy is encouraged to add value to their academic credentials during their time with us and, to this end, we consistently encourage them to exceed their expectations.

The Bedford Curriculum, extending well beyond the requirements of the National Curriculum, is structured to provide a balanced and varied choice of subjects, which will cater towards the individual boy’s strengths. We are not an exam-factory, but we are acutely aware that public exam results are the key to the best possible future for our pupils.

Our broad and traditional curriculum prepares boys for GCSE and IGCSE exams, and for either A-Level or IB exams in the Sixth Form. Our teachers offer a variety of different teaching styles, small class sizes and, where appropriate, setting. Our classrooms are well-resourced and we regularly host lecture series and visiting speakers, alongside our lunchtime and after school academic clinics. ICT and mobile device technology is used extensively to support and enhance learning, but literacy and numeracy skills remain fundamental to all that we do.

We are determined that all boys gain the best qualifications possible and we track all boys through a structured and carefully monitored tutorial and academic progress system. Parents’ evenings are held regularly, and written reports and test results are sent home every term.

We work hard to build strong partnerships for all boys between their family and the school, and our staff are always accessible to pupils and parents. Regular communication is seen as crucial to the boys’ success. Together, we are confident that we can ensure all boys who come to Bedford School leave us to make their way in the world as confident, knowledgeable and curious young men.
