Spring has indeed sprung when it comes to exciting activities popping up for boys to try.

Boys were excited to head outside into the spring sunshine this week for Gardening Club and pot up tender sweet peas and plant out broad bean and chilli seedlings sowed earlier in the term. The boys enthusiastically prepared the outdoor beds ready for their seedlings and constructed sturdy supports for the newly planted vegetables in their busy session. In recent weeks, the boys have also enjoyed building nest boxes for their feathered friends, which you can read about here.

Excitingly, just across the playground at precisely the same time, a new club was also taking shape. Created by Ralph Franklin (Y8), the new club for Y3 and Y4 boys and run by our Kindness Ambassadors—who are all keen to share their knowledge and give something back—started its first session. Ralph enthusiastically told us how, using bushcraft and team building activities, he and the other Y8 Kindness Ambassadors were enjoying the opportunity to teach core value skills to the younger boys. The activities selected are all designed to teach the younger boys about kindness, collaboration, positive inclusion, plus a positive attitude to learning and respect for others—and all in a fun way.

In the first ‘pilot’ week, the Y3 and Y4 boys were clearly enjoying the challenge of building survival dens and playing a pipe run game (a really good teamwork task!) with the support and guidance of the Y8 Ambassadors. With more boys set to give the activities a go in the weeks ahead, the boys have plenty of work ahead of them, but as Ralph explained, “It’s good fun and a good experience for us and good fun for the Y3 and Y4 boys.”

However, this was not the only boy-led club to start up this week, as some of our Y7 and Y8 boys enjoyed the very first session of a new Investment Club earlier in the week. You can read the full story on this exciting club here.
