As a school focused on entrepreneurial thinking, we are always delighted when boys come to us with exciting activities they wish to set up and run for their classmates. The new Investment Club, which launched this week, is an excellent case in point.

After deciding that he would love to share his passion for investing, Andrew Wright (Y8) approached his teachers to set up and run a new Investment Club for Y7 and Y8 boys—and they were delighted to support his endeavours.

This week, for the very first session, Andrew was joined by nine boys, all keen to find out more—and they were not disappointed! By way of an introduction to investing, Andrew spoke with the boys about how the economy affects investment, interest rates, supply, demand and consumption before introducing the boys to a fun investment game: Build Your Stax.

Andrew told us that his interest in investing started during lockdown when he looked into it as something to keep him entertained. Since then, his interest has grown, and he regularly reads articles and books on the subject, citing the Richard Branson autobiography as a source of inspiration. He has also enjoyed some first-hand experience in the area, making investments with his Dad.

The boys were highly enthusiastic after the first session of the club, telling us they “really enjoyed it” and that they found the game, which allowed them to explore investment choice, learn different strategies and understand risk, highly interactive and fun. Next week, they can look forward to finding out about economic indicators, including GDP and the consumer confidence index.
