A visit to the RAF Museum in Hendon – RAF 100 Year Anniversary.
2018 marks the official One Hundred Year Anniversary of the formation of the Royal Air Force. We are sure that there will be many events across the country to tie in with this. For the Old Bedfordians Club, we plan to kick off marking this anniversary with a trip to the RAF Museum at Hendon on the 8th February.
To find out more about museum please visit their website at www.rafmuseum.org.uk/london
The programme will be as follows;
11am - meet for coffee in Museum Cafe - the Wessex Cafe
11.30am - start tour with guide
1.30pm – stop for lunch at the Museum Cafe (food and drink on an individual basis)
2.15pm - continue tour or time to explore individually
3.30pm to 4pm – depart
You can either drive to the museum or use public transport. Colindale underground station is 8 minutes walk from the Museum, and Colindale overground station, 12 minutes walk. There are all a number of hotels in the area for those who would like to make their own arrangements.
For those living in the Bedford area, we plan to take a minibus. We will meet at the School at 9.30am and aim to be back by 5.30pm. Please indicate when you book if you would like to travel on the minibus (this is free of charge).
We recognise that many OBs have connections with the RAF, either having served themselves or through family who served, but please note this event is open to all OBs and their partners.
As 2018 will be the one hundred year anniversary of the RAF we would like to recognise this in the OB Review (due to be published in May). With this in mind, we are particularly keen to hear from anybody who would like to share a special memory or story relating to an OB who served in the RAF over the last one hundred years.
Entrance to the museum is free, but the cost for the tour guide and a two-course lunch is £18 per head, including an online booking fee. We hope that you will join us.
Online booking now closed.
