A message from Christopher:

"I have tried to make this tasting different perhaps from what you might normally expect to drink at Christmas, nothing wrong with that of course-  Champagne, white Burgundy, Claret or red Burgundy, Sauternes, Port etc...

Different, as the best of those wines have become so expensive, their finite production stretched across a World where wine consumption is growing fast. More significantly because in the last few years the quality of vine growing and wine making in more obscure regions has improved incredibly. Wines from internationally unknown grape varietals and vineyard areas are now available in this country, and because they are unknown, tend to be great value for money.

So please keep this to yourselves!

When I first went to Christie’s, I was at a pre-sale dinner in New York when I took a Q&A after dinner. I was asked what my favourite wine was, also, what I thought was the most underrated and undervalued wine in the World.  I naively, stupidly told the assembled diners what I thought and why!

Talk about ruining a market - those big collectors piled in like no tomorrow. I have not been able to afford some of my most loved wines ever since.

All the wines I have selected for the evening‘s tasting with you are modestly priced and come either from Aldi or Waitrose, so they can all be ordered online. Even for a mixed case you may get a discounted price.  At the time of writing, they are all in stock on line, and should they run out because you all buy so much, they may well restock before December, or likely be available in store.

So, nine wines and an outlay of £117.38. I will probably take five minutes over each wine, unless there are some particularly amusing stories, or lots of questions.  You don’t need to purchase everything, but I recommend a bucket to spit in if you do!

I am really looking forward to sharing my ideas with you all, over a glass in the run up to Christmas."
