Boys ages 13-18
Please join us as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Detweiler competition on Friday 25th February 2022. The evening will consist of an informal dinner, taking place at 5:45pm and will be followed by the prize-giving at 7:45pm. At the end of the evening, there will also be an opportunity to have a tour of the art department for those who wish.
The Detweiler competition was introduced to Bedford School by Rob Campbell (Director of Art 1994-2013) in 1997 (see 1997 Ousel article here) and is named after the Canadian composer, author and patron of the arts, Dr Alan Detweiler, who so generously provided the prizes until his death in 2012. Initially set up as an Art competition, it now involves the English, Music and Drama departments and so encourages the arts across the whole school and, as such, is a major event in the school arts calendar.
We would very much like to welcome back any Detweiler Art prize winners from the past, who would like to attend our prize award evening, to relive their past glories and to experience what the Detweiler competition has now become. Old Bedfordians who wish to attend are also very welcome.
We will be inviting back past Art Staff including Rob Campbell, Stephen Odom, Carolyn Blake, Sebastian Chance and Katie Nicholson, so this will be a wonderful opportunity to catch up.
Current guidance from Public Health England is for boys and staff to wear masks when in communal areas around the school and we would politely ask you to do the same.
