With internal exams over, our Y8 boys are enjoying an exciting and enriching post-exam programme in their final weeks in the Prep School.

Boys have enjoyed numerous activities, workshops and talks designed to prepare them for the Upper School and beyond. They have received career inspiration from a range of speakers, with talks covering politics, law and IT, to name just three—and with even more to come, including such diverse subjects as procurement, immunology, architecture and interior design, there is plenty to inspire the boys.

Boys have also added first aid training and life skills to their repertoire this week. The hands-on first aid sessions covered unconscious casualties, the recovery position, EpiPens and CPR. Meanwhile, their fun and practical life skills sessions covered how to change a duvet cover, sew on a button, send an appropriately toned email, make a cup of tea or coffee, polish shoes, iron a shirt and identify and use various cleaning products. All good skills to know and use!

Our ‘Come Dine with Me’ evenings are always a programme highlight, and this year is no exception. We challenge the boys to organise a meal with entertainment for their classmates and teachers and oversee every element, from the invitations to menus to laying and decorating the tables to cooking and serving the food and entertaining their guests. The evenings, as ever, have proved wonderful learning experiences for the boys, who have picked up many new skills from our chefs and catering team and jumped at the opportunity to test their teamwork and communications skills.

With a few weeks of the term remaining, there is plenty more still to come. Next week, in a special talk, the boys will hear from a Holocaust survivor to deepen their understanding of the Holocaust. The talk will also encourage boys to reflect on some of the moral choices faced during this time before working with the Theatre-in-Education Company to help them explore the topic further.

In the final week, there will be plenty of fun, with a residential bushcraft trip, a silly sports day (as well as our usual one) and a paintballing trip to enjoy. We cannot think of a better way to wrap up the school year and the boys’ time in the Prep School!
