We were delighted to welcome back our Patron of Reading, Steve Skidmore, on Thursday 17 October for a series of fun writing masterclasses with our Y8 boys.

Boys, in their classes, each enjoyed a highly entertaining session with the former teacher and hugely popular children’s author who has written a staggering 250 books to date!

Linking in with the boys’ studies, the masterclass covered all things Gothic, from exploring what makes this hugely popular genre unique to top tips for writing Gothic fiction. Hopefully, the boys will all remember Steve’s top tip, that three is the magic number in story writing – three main characters and the repetition of ideas three times – think Harry Potter or Cinderella!

Every session was filled with laughter and fun and fuelled the boys’ enthusiasm for reading, writing and storytelling in general. The boys certainly left keen to try out the methods in their own writing.

We look forward to seeing Steve return for even more fun and inspiration when he works with other year groups later in the year.
