This week, boys in Howard and Harpur Houses explored Economic Well-Being as part of their Personal Development curriculum.

Our Y8 boys, who hold responsibilities within the school, led these vertical mentoring groups. The groups included boys from all age groups within their respective Houses. The older boys prompted the discussions and supported their younger peers.

During the 30-minute session, the groups explored various aspects related to economic well-being, including:

  • Understanding the meaning of ‘economic well-being’
  • Differentiating between wants and needs
  • Grasping the concept of budgeting
  • Identifying what can influence spending
  • Recognising the importance of saving
  • Learning how money can be used to help others

The Y8 boys received training sessions on the topic beforehand, which clearly paid off. They brilliantly engaged boys of all ages, ensuring that all were involved in the discussion. They even found novel ways to establish the consensus in the room.

The result? Highly interactive sessions where boys felt confident and at ease discussing the topic.

Boys in Bunyan and Whitbread can look forward to their vertical tutoring sessions in a fortnight.
