As boys in Y6 entered the Erskine May Hall on Tuesday 23 May, they were whisked back in time to Tudor England, to become courtiers and servants for the day.

The hall was abuzz with activity as the boys explored life in Tudor England, fittingly attired in period costumes, throwing themselves into various immersive activities. Throughout the morning, the boys tried their hand at many typical crafts, from making candles, inks, soaps, herbal medicines and scent bags to embroidering ‘muckinder’ (handkerchiefs) and painting miniatures. Then, through drama, role play and questioning, the boys discovered more about the events of the time. The afternoon’s activity involved storytelling and a Tudor banquet to celebrate Henry VIII’s new queen.

Head of History, Mr Dennis, told us, “The day was a wonderfully immersive experience for the boys, contextualising all they have learned in the classroom and bringing it to life.”
