Our Y6 boys came together with Y6 girls from Bedford Girls’ School on Thursday for a Communication and Internet Safety day.

Communication skills were the focus of sessions at Bedford Prep School. The pupils working together explored persuasive language in fun drama sessions, experimenting with tone, inflection, facial expressions and body language to convey emotion and emphasis – learning that loud is not always the most powerful option.

Pupils also put their communication, listening and questioning skills to the test through a range of fun activities, such as back-to-back map reading and navigation and 20 questions.

Communicating safely and online (e-safety) was the focus of the sessions at Bedford Girls School. Pupils debated ‘what age is appropriate for using WhatsApp?’ and looked at common scenarios they may face when interacting online and how to deal with them. A special workshop with the school’s digital safety lead saw pupils thinking about how they are all bystanders when on group chats and their responsibilities as bystanders.

As ever, the day proved a great learning experience and provided a fantastic opportunity to renew friendships and create new ones.
