Y5 pupils from Bedford School and Bedford Girls’ School came together on Tuesday 19 March to wrap up their topic work on Europe with a Spanish flourish.

During the day, pupils worked together in the Inky Library, researching Spain’s rich culture and history. They translated basic Spanish phrases in small groups and matched them to their English translations. They also uncovered numerous facts about Spain, such as its currency, population, capital city and national dishes, and even that the tooth fairy in Spain is a mouse called Ratoncito Pérez!

The Y5 boys and girls also explored Latin rhythms in a lively dance session with Olivia from Zest Dance. In pairs, the pupils learned simple dance steps, which they pieced together to build a complete dance. Everyone was encouraged to give it a go, have fun and not worry about getting the moves wrong; even those initially hesitant were dancing by the end of each session.

As always, it was a joy to see the pupils working together, enjoying each other’s company, growing in confidence, learning new skills and having fun.
