World Book Day was, as ever, a wonderful celebration of reading but with diversity at its heart this year. Each Head of Year specially selected a book for their year group to study, including Sadiq and the Desert Star, Tin Boy, Murder Most Unladylike and The Breadwinner. Then, throughout the day, each year group was given the opportunity to work on the book, read extracts from their chosen novel and act out some drama inspired by the story.

As in previous years, each tutor group chose another book to inspire their costumes for the day. . .  and inspired they were! Well done to all the boys and their families for putting in so much thought and effort.

We were also delighted to be joined by Steve Skidmore, our Patron of Reading, for some special assemblies in the morning, followed by a workshop for our Y6 boys. The lucky Y6 boys were the very first pupils in the world(!) to get a sneak peek at the Two Steves’ (AKA Steve Skidmore and Steve Barlow) new graphic novels, which illustrate and retell some of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, with inclusion at their heart to encourage every reader to see themselves in the iconic roles . . . and the boys did just that, acting out the Romeo and Juliet balcony scene and some of Macbeth’s three witches’ most famous lines.

The fun day wrapped up with a final assembly, during which the boys attempted to guess which book each tutor group had chosen to represent in costume.
