Virtual reality is increasingly adding an exciting dimension to lessons and clubs for boys in our Prep School. In line with our focus on providing boys with a world-class computing education and the skills and knowledge to thrive both today and in the future in an increasingly digital world of work, this technology is being widely used to enhance the boys’ learning experience.

In science, for example, boys are immersing themselves in the study of the human body. Using the VR headsets, boys can explore inside the human body and look in 3D at the circulatory, digestive and respiratory systems. While the VR headsets follow a programme, the boys have the control in their hands to investigate any individual areas of interest even further. Using the technology, the boys can change heart rates, see the effect of an asthma attack on the lungs, various diseases on the human body, and much more.

“It’s hard to imagine the inside of the human body from diagrams in a book, but the headsets let us see inside.”

Boys are also enhancing their skills through play. For example, the highly popular VR Club allows boys to interact with VR technology in a fun way. During the fun lunchtime sessions, boys can experience the rush of a roller coaster ride, play as Spiderman in an exciting virtual universe, or explore the real world in 3D through Google Earth. It is wonderful to see boys growing in confidence and gaining desirable digital skills that are highly transferrable skills in the process.

“The VR headsets give us a better understanding because everything is so realistic.”

These are clearly exciting times for technology in the classroom!
