We are proud to see our Y8 boys stepping up to lead vertical mentoring groups for boys of all ages in their Houses.

The sessions, which started last week following training sessions with Miss Goodman or Mrs Gordon, are being run by Y8 boys who have a role of responsibility within the school.

With a focus on positivity, our Y8 boys begin the sessions by asking questions to open up conversations and help the boys from all year groups to get to know each other better. The boys are encouraged to think and talk positively about, for example, things they have done recently, of which they are proud, and which superpower they would choose if they could have any, as well as talking about what they can do to improve their mental health and who is good to speak to about their mental health.

By the end of the sessions, boys of all ages were interacting and growing in confidence as they chatted happily.

Miss Goodman commented, “I am delighted with the success of the mentoring sessions so far. Seeing the boys developing positive relationships across all years through these vertical groups is lovely. The younger boys benefit from the experience and first-hand advice that the older boys, who they look up to, offer. While the Y8 boys, relishing this role of responsibility, are developing their leadership and communication skills. Above all, seeing all the boys benefitting from sharing their experiences and exploring mental health so positively is wonderful.”
