Congratulations are in order once again for Ethan Vernon (07-18) upon winning Gold at the Cycling World Championships.

OB, Ethan has continued to take his excellent early season form, which saw him win stages of the Tour of Rwanda and Romandie, to the World UCI Championships at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow.

The Championship started dramatically, when Ethan and his fellow teammates crashed out in the team pursuit, while defending the World title they won last year.

Putting his disappointment to one side, Ethan took home the gold medal in the Men’s Elimination Race in an incident-filled competition that saw him crash heavily halfway through the race.  Showing great determination despite the cuts and bruises he was soon up and challenging the field, which included Italy’s Olympic and former World Champion Elia Viviani, who he defeated in the final throws of the competition, securing his second world title.

Speaking to Eurosport, Ethan expressed surprise at having secured the title especially after the heavy crash.

After a few days of well-earned rest and recuperation, Ethan is due to return to his UCI Quick-Step World Tour team for the rest of the season, ahead of next year’s Paris Olympics.
