We love history at Bedford Prep and were delighted when two of our boys, Oliver Barbour (Y8) and George Plumley (Y7), demonstrated their brilliant knowledge of history in style with superb performances in the Townsend-Warner History Prize.

In January, Oliver and George took part in the first round of the Townsend-Warner Prize, answering 100 questions on British history – some questions a little more obscure and requiring an excellent knowledge of history.

One thousand one hundred forty-two entrants participated in the first round, and we are delighted to say that George was placed second in the country. Both George and Oliver were among the top 250 candidates who qualified for the second round, which requires the boys to write five essays in two hours.

After competing last year, Oliver is no stranger to the competition and, impressively, finished nearly 70 places higher this time round in 67th place. George finished in 7th and will have the opportunity to have another go at the competition next year when he is in Y8, and we cannot wait to see how he does.

“We are incredibly proud of Oliver and George. This wonderful achievement showcases their awe-inspiring knowledge of history.”
