Lower Sixth Former Jameson Liang was thrilled to learn recently that he has been awarded the most prestigious of the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards.

Jameson was presented with the Top in World award for quite literally achieving the top mark in the world for his Design Technology IGCSE.

The Awards programme celebrates the success of learners taking Cambridge examinations in over 40 countries around the world. The awards recognise dedication and hard work exhibited by the students and also the unwavering support and guidance provided by their teachers.

Mr Gareth Waite, DT Teacher who taught Jameson through his GCSE years explained, “From the first term of the IGCSE course, Jameson showed both a genuine interest and curiosity for the detail in design. This was coupled with a real, natural talent and his design sketching showed creativity and flair, as well as being practically considered.

“Jameson is incredibly modest despite his exceptional ability. He enjoys analysing both his own design work and the work of others but is always sensitive when critical and always has an eye to help improve. Jameson is talented, hard-working and curious about the detail within a subject that he is passionate about, and his success is well-deserved and no surprise. It’s a pleasure to now have him studying A-Level Design Technology, where he will set a new benchmark for future students.”

Jameson, who was presented with this award in assembly earlier this week, explained that one reason he loves DT was because it concludes and standardises processes, methods and theories behind every simple object around us, allowing us to quickly understand and see the world from a different perspective. This has led to an interest in engineering and a deeper understanding of everyday life.

Jameson said, after receiving the award, “I feel very happy and proud of getting the best result in the world for DT, not just for myself, but also for our DT department. I feel very fortunate to have been taught and supervised by such good teachers, and I have accessed such great resources in the DT department at Bedford School. I consider myself to be lucky as I got something good in return as a result of what our DT department offered me.”

Jameson is currently taking Maths, Further Maths, Physics and DT at A-Level, and doing an Extended Project Qualification on high-speed railways. He will be applying to read General Engineering at Cambridge, Mechanical and Design Engineering at Imperial, and Mechanical Engineering at Bath and Leeds.
