Boys enjoyed a series of laugh-out-loud sessions with a magical twist on Friday 3 December when Ross Welford joined them for the day. The children’s author introduced boys to the ‘library of imagination’ during a celebration of books and reading, with added magic tricks.

Ross, who was not only inspired by the books he read as a child but also by his love of magic, explained to the boys that “Reading is a form of magic. When you open the pages of a book, magic happens – you start to believe in all the fabulous things going on.”

During the fun session, boys of all ages explored what makes a story, from creating fun characters to giving them a problem to solve. Quite simply, “Characters without problems are really, really boring!

The boys then joined in with Ross to dream up some characters – the morning session with our Y3 and Y4 boys included Timmy the talking elephant, Jimmy the mouse, Rose the ticket seller and an unnamed woolly mammoth. The boys dreamt up a missing jewel-encrusted sword, and their quest to find it took them to the pyramids and Las Vegas!

This fantastic visit, full of magic and fantastical tales, had the boys rolling with laughter! A wonderful way to finish the week.
