The latest joint activity morning between our Y5 boys and girls from Bedford Girls’ School proved ‘eggs-tremely’ challenging and enjoyable!

Their mission for the morning – to create a parachute and holder for their egg (hard-boiled) to ensure a gentle landing after dropping them from height.

Armed with straws, string, Sellotape, newspaper, a bin bag, scissors and needle and thread, the pupils had one hour to hatch their plans and ideas, create a design, build their parachutes, test, refine and hone them ahead of ‘the big drop’.

The Erskine May Hall was soon buzzing with activity as the boys and girls worked together, showing brilliant creativity, collaboration, and, when at first their ideas did not succeed, perseverance. Not to mention some excellent egg naming; our favourites were ‘Scramble’ and ‘Eggward’.

All too soon, the hour was up, and it was time to test their designs, which were marked on aesthetics, speed (the slower the descent, the better) and the safety of the egg. The teams were also marked on how well they worked together.

‘The big drop’ proved to be as ‘egg-citing’ as the rest of the session and a brilliant, thrilling finale to the morning.
