For what could be the first time in the history of the school, two members of staff and a current pupil played alongside each other in the Bedford Men’s 1st XI Hockey team in a national league game.

The trio, comprising of Upper Sixth Former Joshua Stewart, Director of Hockey Sam Mee and PE and Games teacher Lee Hoggett, are all squad members at the Bedford Hockey Club and regularly train together. However, Sunday 9 October was the first time all three were selected at the same time in the Bedford men’s line-up. They played against Harleston Magpies and beat them 1-0 in the National Conference League.

Mr Mee, a former National Premier League hockey player himself, commented, “It was an honour to compete alongside a current pupil, who I have been coaching in school for several years. Joshua is a fine player and it’s not surprising that he has been asked to step up to play for the Bedford men’s team. I believe this could be the first time that two current members of staff and a current boy have played together at such a high standard, and it is great to play a part in Bedford School history.”
