With Wimbledon in full swing, Bedford School played host to our first ever Tennis Championship in conjunction with local coaches at Woolfy Tennis.

Tennis at school has increased in popularity over the years, and we now have over 200 boys in the programme, with the quality of play improving all the time.

The inaugural championships took place on the evening of 30 June, and with over 40 boys competing from across the school, the event was deemed a fantastic success. Not only did the boys thoroughly enjoy the evening, but also displayed very competitive levels of tennis.

In the Fourth Form category, after some exciting and close matches, the group winners and semi-finalists were Jorge Garcia De La Rubia, Misha Savitski, Eeshan Agrawal and Joseph Lee.

In the semi-finals, Eeshan lost to Joseph in a tense ‘see-saw’ battle, and Jorge beat Misha (10-3). Consistency prevailed in the final, which saw Jorge win 10-3 against Joseph to be crowned the 2022 champion.

The Remove Formers produced some equally impressive tennis. Doubles partners Dima Gusev and Freddie Whittaker played against each other in the final, with Dima prevailing 4-3 in the high-quality encounter.

Josh Stewart dominated the Sixth Form event with another powerful display and overcame Tai Tsang-Goodwin in the final.

Well done to all the boys who took part and competed so well. Huge thanks to Jonny and Robbie Woolf for running the tournament.

However, play does not stop there – this weekend will see our U18A and U15A and B teams look forward to the ISTA championships at Eton College, and the whole club will conclude the term with the House Matches during the final week of term.
