What could be more quintessentially British than a tea party? It was, therefore, the perfect event to complement our Y5 boys’ topic studies this term on the British Isles.

In lessons, boys have been exploring the many influences from other parts of the world from Britain’s historical empire-building, and how many of these have become a part of daily life in the 21st century. They have looked at the importance of tea and its significance both culturally and economically. Answering the question, “Why are the British obsessed with tea?”, to that end, the boys looked at tea origins and different tea types, with the end goal of hosting a traditional afternoon tea party for their parents and other esteemed guests – which they did with great success.

In Y5, boys now enjoy topic lessons combining history, geography and religious studies to help smooth the transition from their early years in Y3 and Y4.
