We are delighted to share the recent sporting successes of two of our boys, Berkley Barnicoat (Y8) and Nathan Nolan (Y6).

Berkley performed superbly at last week’s National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships to take silver in the Y8 competition. Held simultaneously in London and Leeds venues, 267 boys raced for the Y8 title. Berkley, who rowed at London’s Copper Box Arena, achieved an incredible distance of 917 metres in the three-minute race – a time that put him four metres from the standing British age group record. Indeed, Berkley only missed the top spot when a fellow competitor pulled a new record out of the bag to take the gold.

A rower with a bright future, Berkley has been awarded a rowing scholarship for September, when he moves up to the Upper School.

Talented golfer Nathan Nolan was invited to play in the World Junior Golf Championship held in Portugal over the recent half-term break. Nathan played some superb golf during the three-day, 18-hole competition. On day one, he registered an impressive 82, including three birdies and six pars. Days two and three proved challenging due to the on-course weather conditions; however, Nathan still finished amongst the top 20 in his division – an excellent effort considering most of the boys were older than him and on single handicap. It proved a memorable experience for Nathan due to the level of golf played and the new friendships he made.

Nathan was also named the leading male golfer for 2022 at Woburn Golf Club and, excitingly, has been selected to represent Woburn at an England golf event later this summer.

Director of Sport Shawn Phillips told us, “Both boys have done amazingly well and should be justly proud of their achievements – we most certainly are! Well done, boys.”
