Our Prep boys proved how super they are at Rugby Sevens this week when they topped the tables in not one but two tournaments.

On Saturday 25 February, the U13s won the St John’s Beaumont Sevens Tournament in style, winning all five games against Berkhamstead, Hoe Bridge, Moulsford, Oratory Prep, and the hosts St. John’s Beaumont in the final. During the tournament, the boys amassed an impressive 32 tries and conceded just three.

U13A Saturday Team: Elliot Allen (Capt), Freddie Barnes (Vice-Capt), Howie Barnett-Vincent, Berkley Barnicoat, Oliver Bodfield, Toby Hudson, George Millar, Oscar Price, Rory Stewart-Jones, Sebastian Warner

On Sunday, a second set of U13A boys topped the table at the Oundle Sevens with wins against Oakham, Oundle and Wisbech and a narrow defeat to Stamford.

U13A Sunday Team: Jacob Adedeji, Basil Anstee, Toby Coles, Arthur Fitzpatrick, Harry Mullan, Tom Ulvert (Capt), Dylan Uppal, Isaac Vincent-Emery (Vice-Capt), Gus Willson, Oliver Whittam, Ben Zanna

To be able to field such strength in depth across two tournaments is a testament to the skill of so many of our boys and promises even more great rugby to come as they move up to the Upper School.

However, it is not just the top teams who have enjoyed rugby, with Prep boys of all ages enjoying running out for training and fixtures. Earlier in the season, our youngest boys in Y3 enjoyed a friendly mini-tournament against Stamford and Witham Hall. It proved an excellent opportunity for the boys to test their skills in what was, for many, a new sport and, of course, enjoy the highlight of fixtures for many boys – a match tea. That fixture had sausage, beans and chips – always a winner!

So, as we wrap up the term, boys can not only happily reflect on a successful term of rugby (and some superb hockey, IAPS U11 National Finalists no less) but also the myriad of other sports on offer, and there is plenty to look forward to next term, including cricket and tennis and, for our Y7 and Y8 boys, rowing.
