The brilliantly named Stormfly, a bearded dragon, is the latest addition to the science department’s animal collection, which also includes a crested gecko, a chameleon, a tortoise, snakes, gerbils and tropical saltwater and freshwater fish.

The animals are at the heart of our hugely popular Animal Care Club, which has been running since 2018 and remains one of the most popular with boys. The calm and friendly animals are looked after by an enthusiastic but gentle army of boys in the Animal Care Club. The boys, with supervision, take care of the animals, helping to feed and clean them as well as enjoying plenty of cuddles with the fluffier ones.

“It is always wonderful to see the joy the animals bring the boys. Through taking care of them, the boys learn about the animals and their environments as well as the importance of responsibility, not to mention having plenty of fun in the process.”
