On Wednesday night, around 400 people attended one of the biggest concerts of the year, our St Cecilia’s concert. A further 103 people tuned in to watch the live stream on YouTube.

Ninety-nine boys were involved in nine different ensembles, which included all of the major ensembles in the Upper School. We were treated to a real variety of repertoire ranging from a performance of one of Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos by the Chamber Orchestra to Gershwin’s American in Paris performed by the School Wind Band. There were more contemporary pieces including some creative arrangements of jazz standards, performed by the Jazz Orchestra, and a fascinating mash-up arrangement called Superbatspiderman by our Composer in Residence Andrew Groom, performed by the Junior Brass Ensemble! The evening was rounded off with a rousing performance of the last two movements of Sibelius’s Symphony No.2, by the First Orchestra.

Mr Joss Sanders, Director of Music, said, “It’s always encouraging to see so many boys getting involved in music-making at Bedford School, and this Wednesday’s concert was no exception, with a fantastic variety of music performed.”
