From hockey to table tennis, swimming to rugby sevens, and football to water polo, it has been another busy week of sport at Bedford Prep. Seeing so many boys competing in fixtures and tournaments is always a joy.

Hockey

In a big week of hockey, our U11, U12 and U13 A to D teams enjoyed fixtures against Kimbolton School and Bilton Grange, who also played our U8 boys. It was wonderful to see so many boys out playing, honing their skills and proudly representing the school.

Against Kimbolton, the U12 A team showcased some nice spells of hockey early on in the game, which saw them go up 2 – 0. Some positional misjudgments allowed Kimbolton back into the game. Bedford found themselves 3 – 2 down with 15 minutes left to go. The boys then showed excellent commitment and fight to not only score an equaliser but also a winner in the last play of the game.

It was pleasing to see boys throughout the U12 club perform brilliantly week in and week out. Special mentions go to Seb Bodfield and James Clements, who consistently stand out in the B and C teams, respectively.

Our U13A and U13B teams also played some fantastic hockey. Facing Kimbolton’s very technical players, Bedford Prep produced some excellent cohesive team play, showcasing brilliant patterns of hockey. Special mentions for Oscar Wood, who continues to be an absolute stalwart in defence, and Edward Page in the centre midfield for the  U13As.

Our U13Cs got off to a rocky start in their match against Bilton Grange, leaking two early goals. However, the boys rallied together and worked hard to get on even terms and went into halftime 2 – 2. Despite some inspirational words from Mr Lincoln at the break, the boys went down by two goals again but did not give up and fought hard to claw the game back, eventually winning 5 – 4. Special mention goes to Spencer O’Boyle for his hat trick of goals.

Table Tennis

Our U11 and U13 table tennis teams showcased their skills at the England National Schools’ semi-finals. The U13s secured an impressive third place, while the U11s clinched the top spot, earning them a place at the National Finals in April. Congratulations to both teams on some outstanding performances.

Rugby Sevens

Our U11 and U13 squads competed in the Winchester House Festival on Saturday. It was a day of constant downpours, but the boys were undeterred and showed remarkable resilience and grit. The U13s had a superb day, winning their group matches against Ashfold, Warwick, Winchester House and their quarter-final against Beachborough. However, a strong Northampton School for Boys squad ended their bid for a finals spot. The U11s also had a superb day, winning three of their five matches to achieve third place. Congratulations to all the boys, especially in such wet conditions.
