What better way for our boys to start off the new year than by fuelling their bodies with not only delicious food, but food that has been created to nourish them as they grow. Following its initial launch back in January 2020, and an unexpected break due to the mass interruption that the pandemic brought, we were delighted to see the relaunch of ‘Powering Performance’ in our Dining Hall this week.

Young people today are more aware of the relationship between their food choices and wellbeing, and enjoy making choices that meet their individual needs for sport, academic performance, mental health and wellbeing – that is where Powering Performance comes in.

This delicious new menu, which sits alongside the school’s regular choices, offers dishes that fall under four aims: Focus, Strengthen, Sustain and Replenish.

Developed in partnership with the British Nutrition Foundation, our Powering Performance programme embeds the principles of the Eatwell Guide, which represents the principles of healthy and sustainable eating. It adopts four pillars (focus, strengthen, sustain, and replenish), each assigned a list of ingredients that provide nutrients for which there is evidence of benefits for young people’s health and wellbeing. The pillars also help to frame and communicate healthy eating messages associated with the role of these nutrients in how they support different body functions related to regulated health claims, thus enabling students to make an informed choice about the dish they select.

William Hackett, Catering Manager explained, “The Powering Performance programme is an exciting way to bring nutritional science to life across our menus. It is more important now than ever that we both promote and educate our boys in relation to the benefits of healthy eating. Understanding the role of key nutrients in how they support different body functions will enable our boys to make better informed choices about the dish they select.’’

The menu is available in addition to our regular menu on selected days.
