Our International Baccalaureate (IB) Lower Sixth boys, together with girls from Bedford Girls’ School, gathered in the school library to discuss academic, philosophical questions about real-world issues affecting us today as part of their Theory of Knowledge Exhibition.

Theory of Knowledge (ToK) is a core component of the IB Diploma. The subject is philosophical in nature but draws primarily on real-world examples that reflect the students’ own experiences. The exhibition is a part of the formal assessment of ToK, and the students selected three real-world topics to provoke discussion and analysis of one of the prescribed ‘prompt’ questions, for example, ‘Can new knowledge change established beliefs or values?’ or ‘What role do experts play in the pursuit of knowledge?’.

The students presented their exhibitions to an audience of teachers, parents and fellow students.

Mr Adrian Finch, Director of IB, said afterwards, “The evening was hugely enjoyable – a great opportunity to discuss academic, philosophical questions and a celebration of high-quality IB practice between Bedford Girls’ School and Bedford School.”
