We love reading at Bedford Prep and are delighted to say so do many of our boys. We are particularly proud this week to shine a spotlight on a number of our Y5 and Y6 boys and Y7 and Y8 boys who have stepped up to be Reading Ambassadors and share their enthusiasm for reading with Y3-Y4 and Y5-Y6 boys, respectively.
Our Y5 and Y6 boys, who wear their Reading Ambassador badges with great pride, undertook training last term to understand how to engage the Y3 and Y4 boys with whom they are partnered in reading. Now in their fourth week as Reading Ambassadors, the boys are reading together and listening to their partners to help improve their reading confidence and fluency, and the sessions are proving a huge hit with all the boys, who look forward to their weekly session. Our Y7 and Y8 ambassadors enthusiastically started working with their Y5 and Y6 partners this week, having completed their training.
Reading helps improve reading and writing ability, increases vocabulary, enhances imagination, boosts creativity and expands knowledge – all brilliant outcomes for the classroom. However, reading does more than that – it boosts mood, helps boys relax and reduce stress levels, and helps boys to see, explore and understand the world around them – and even discover exciting new worlds. Reading is an amazing and joyful adventure that our Reading Ambassadors hope to help their partners to discover.
