It may have been a wet day, but this did not dampen the spirits of our Y4 boys as they excitedly headed off to Whipsnade Zoo on Wednesday. In fact, the downpours worked in the boys’ favour as they had the zoo virtually to themselves–apart from the animals!

During the day, the boys delved deeper into their studies of rainforests and the many species that live within them. A trip inside the butterfly house recreated the rainforest climate, which was excellent for the boys to experience. The boys also looked at endangered species to help inform their persuasive writing and debating on whether zoos are good or bad.

Miss Oakley told us, “Visiting a conservation-based zoo, such as Whipsnade, was great for the boys in helping to inform them about the many positive aspects, which they can now take forward into their persuasive writing.”

The boys also enjoyed brilliant views and close encounters with numerous animals, including majestic elephants and rhinos and the ever-popular and quirky penguins.

All in all, it was a brilliant day! The boys, as ever, exhibited excellent behaviour, and as they headed back to school, they had a wealth of newfound knowledge to put to good use in their upcoming lessons.
