Chris Gentry (Y7), Daniel Joaille-Burge (Y7), Matthew Moretto (Y8) and Noe Simplicio (Y8) headed online this week to compete in the opening round of the largest school quizzing competition: The Schools Challenge.

The boys faced Merchants Taylors’ School in the University Challenge style competition, answering starter questions against the buzzer and team questions on the theme. Despite some tricky questions, we are delighted to say that the boys’ general knowledge was superb. For example, they knew how many syllables are in a haiku, the forces commanded by Hannibal (Catharge), the planet closest to the sun, as well as the name for the mythical creature with the head of a lion, the body of a goat, and tail of a serpent (chimaera).

At the end of the competition, the Bedford Prep team emerged triumphant, and the boys are now looking forward to round two with great excitement.
