In a delightful finale to the first half of the spring term, boys, parents and guests came together in the Great Hall for this year’s House Singing competition.

As ever, all the boys sang exceptionally well. Mr Paul West, Bishop’s Stortford College’s Director of Music and our adjudicator had to admit that he had an almost “impossible task” in selecting the winning Houses.

In the Unison competition, Bunyan moved the audience with their rendition of Hallelujah. Harpur sprinkled a touch of Disney with an uplifting Moana Medley. Howard’s performance of the classic Build Me Up Buttercup had toes tapping, and Whitbread’s pop-tastic rendition of the S Club 7 classic Reach was great fun.

In the Part Song, Bunyan’s “coolest version of a nursery rhyme ever heard” vied with the timeless classics of Over the RainbowRiversong and Streets of London.

Speaking at the end of the competition, the adjudicator, Mr West, told boys that they should be incredibly proud of themselves and their “amazing performances” and invited every boy who sang to take a bow – which is every single boy in the Prep School! Mr West also praised the conductors, saying, “The student leadership was quite remarkable.”

However, there can only be two winners, and this year Whitbread won this year’s Part Song Cup for their performance of Streets of London, with its “perfectly balanced harmonies.” Bunyan were the winners of the Unison Cup for their incredible rendition of Hallelujah, which just kept giving “more and more intensity and energy but without ever losing control.”

What an incredible afternoon of singing, house camaraderie and school community.
