On Sunday 19th March, past members of the school chapel choir joined current members to commemorate the Great Fire of 1979 at the service of Morning Prayer.  The Choir and Clergy processed into a packed chapel singing the school hymn, Domus Pater.  This was shortly followed by a rendition of Psalm 100, Jubilate Deo.  The congregation then sang a rousing rendition of Jerusalem which could be heard across the school estate.

The highlight of the service was the Choir singing the Church’s ancient and traditional hymn of thanksgiving, Te Deum. Head of the Faculty of English, Nicholas Hopton delivered the sermon which centred around ‘being open for business’ and was a poignant reminder of the school’s refusal to allow the Great Fire to disrupt a single lesson!

Proceedings were rounded off with Jerusalem the Golden before everyone adjourned to the Memorial Hall for a well-earned cup of coffee.

It was a wonderful symbolic occasion, bringing together current and past generations of school choristers, which we hope will be enthusiastically repeated in years to come.
