Many congratulations to Fraser Dingwall (14-17) and George Furbank (13-15), who played significant roles in the recent Rugby Six Nations Tournament.

Fraser, who made his debut in the victory against Italy, went on to score in the next match against Wales, while George scored in both the Scottish and Ireland games. Unfortunately, George suffered an injury early in the last game, which meant he was unable to participate fully. Both have now returned to their club, Northampton Saints, for the remainder of the domestic season and are hoping to take Saints to the Premiership final in early June. Last weekend saw a microphone attached to Fraser’s collar, which captured his elation when the team scored and the physical nature of the game. You can see the footage HERE

As we previously reported, Callum Smyth (20-22) played for the Scotland U20 team during their Six Nations campaign.

The Phoenix Rugby 7s team, made up of recent leavers, recently held a training session at the Gordon Field under the watchful eye of James Hinkins, Master in Charge of Rugby, here at school. The players went through a gruelling session, practicing several moves they are hoping to use in the four tournaments they’ve entered this summer, which are:

  • Eggchaser 7’s Reigate – 18th May 2024
  • Olney 7’s – 22nd June 2023
  • Lit 7’s London – 13th July 2024
  • JF7’s Wimbledon – 27th July 2024

For those of you who like your history, we’ve looked back to the England v Ireland game of 1906 when two OBs took the field together for England (CH Milton (1896-1903) and CEL Hammond (1897-1898)). In fact, there were three OBs that day, with Basil Maclear (1893-1899) playing for Ireland. Ireland won that day, beating England 16-6, with Basil scoring a try and conversion. Milton’s brother ‘Jumbo’ Milton (1896-1903) has the distinction of having played for England in the 1904 Home Nations while still at the school!

Finally, two current students at the school to keep an eye on are Aiden Ainsworth-Cave and Jonny Weimann who are both in action for England at the 2024 U18 Men’s Six Nations Rugby Festival in France.
