On a wet and blustery day, the OB shooting team mustered itself and arrived at the school for the postponed 2021 match against the boys. Confidence was as usual both high and misplaced and quickly bolstered by a delightful lunch taken in the school dining halls. Weighed down now by both expectation and food, the shooting started with the usual format of group, rapid and snap. It quickly became apparent that we were up against it. The OB grouping was a little loose, the rapid was not quite as rapid as it used to be (despite one OB misinterpreting ’load’ for ‘fire’..) and the snap just made us jump. Meanwhile the school – like a well-oiled machine – delivered score after score, well above the now mostly bemused OBs. Fortunately, the OBs quickly rallied back in the Memorial Hall when refreshments appeared and movement started to return to their aching limbs

Alas, at the final count the OB side was well beaten by a well-coached school team full of talent. We will watch with interest to see what the boys can achieve in the future.

From an OB perspective, Dan Lumley-Wood (12-21) showed us all how it should be done (88 ex 95) and Nigel Greenaway (76-81)rolled back the years to put a very credible performance in. The school had multiple high scores but Peter Lumley-Wood (84-94) stole the show with the day’s top score of 95 ex 95

It was particularly pleasing to see new (and younger!) faces in the OB team and this bodes well for the future. The next match is only 3 months away and we look forward to it immensely.

Many thanks again to the school, and particularly, Mr (Peter) Lumley-Wood, for hosting us so generously.

Steve Lyon (73-84)
