This year’s OB Careers Convention coincided with National Careers Week and was once again a resounding success with over 500 (double on last year) students from across the borough, along with some young OBs, tuning in to hear our panel of experts from across the school community. Now in its seventeenth year, the event was held online, for the third year running, and spread over the course of three evenings (Tuesday 7th March – Thursday 9th March).

This year, we held twelve sessions with 60 experts exploring a diverse set of careers, ranging from investment banking, cyber security, and scientific research to aviation, law, engineering, medicine and many more.

With over 1,650 bookings across 12 sessions and participants from 13 schools, including 10 state schools, across the borough, our goal of giving back to the wider community, and making this the most inclusive OB Careers Convention to date, was realised.

“We are extremely grateful to everyone who gave up their time to support this event. This year, we were particularly pleased to have our largest event yet, utilising our community network to help support students from schools across the borough.” Hugh Maltby – BSA (Bedford School Association), Director

We have received excellent feedback from both the attendees and the career representatives, who were very impressed with the participants.

“I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Careers Convention and was really impressed with the questions I received from the participants. The 55 minutes just seemed to fly by!” Careers Representative

“I thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to hear professionals from so many different careers, over the course of the three evenings. I found out about some careers that I knew little about and the speakers were so inspiring and knowledgeable.” 6th Form Student

We would like to thank all our fantastic representatives (OBs, parents, past parents, and friends of the school) who gave their time and shared their expertise – without them, we wouldn’t have been able to run the event.

If you are interested in helping at next year’s Careers Convention, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch with us at obclub@bedfordschool.org.uk and help inspire young people who might be considering your profession.
