A group of Fourth and Remove Form boys from our Music School were given a warm welcome by St John’s College School in Cambridge this week, when they delivered a truly high-class lunchtime concert to an audience of their boys and staff.

Amongst the repertoire performed was the First Movement from Haydn’s String Quartet no.1 by the Remove Form String Quartet (made up of Alexander Olleson, Angus Timmins, Ethan Newton-Walters and Lincoln Chiu), the Poulenc Oboe Sonata (Ivan Yu, Fourth Form) and Rachmaninov’s Prelude op.32 no.12 (Samuel McMurran, Fourth Form).

Fourth Formers Harry L’Estrange and Koya Okusaga were both given a rapturous welcome back, having previously been pupils at St John’s. The trip was a great experience for our music students, and a beneficial opportunity to practise their live performances.

Dominic Childs, Head of Woodwind and Brass, said, “All the boys not only performed beautifully but represented the school on all levels impeccably. Simon Kirk, Director of Music at St John’s, expressed admiration not only with regard to the potential of our young musicians, but the joy they clearly received from making music together.”
