Remove Former Millan Verwoert is one step closer to performing at the National Theatre after being selected to perform in the National Theatre Connections 2022.

Each year, the National Theatre commissions ten new plays for young people to perform, bringing together some of the UK’s most exciting writers with the theatre-makers of the future. With this also comes the opportunity for young people to audition to perform in these plays, and, after a thorough audition, Millan was chosen from over 6,000 young people aged 14 to 18 years from around the UK to take part.

Millan has been cast as Bobby Brunt, one of the main characters, in the play No Time Like Tomorrow by the Belgrade Young Theatre Company. The play will be performed at Milton Keynes Theatre and the Northampton Royal and Derngate. During these performances, someone from the National Theatre will observe and choose one production of the play to be performed at the National Theatre festival in London.

Talking about the prospect of performing at the National Theatre, Millan explained, “It’s slightly nerve-wracking, obviously the standard is really high, but I want to perform for my classmates and myself – it would be amazing – a really cool experience.”

Millan is taking drama at GCSE and has starred in many Bedford School productions, most recently giving a superb performance as the sleazy character of Squealer in George Orwell’s Animal Farm. Millan’s portrayal was so convincing that he even grabbed the attention of the local media who wrote, “For me, Squealer stole the show” in their performance review.

Millan is also a keen rugby player, playing in the school A team, and rugby sevens team, and is part of the Northampton Saints Developing Player Programme.
