Our Y6 boys enjoyed a highly entertaining afternoon in the company of the simply excellent Young Shakespeare Company – whose visit is always a highlight of the spring term. On this occasion, the brilliant actors took the boys on an enchanting journey through Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Actively engaged and involved in the play throughout the highly interactive performance, the boys were much more than mere observers. As the tale unfolded, the boys explored the characters’ motives, thoughts and feelings, exploring in detail how Hermia and her friends felt at every twist and turn of their confused night in the forest. Several boys also took on the roles of individual characters in the story—quite brilliantly! And all had the opportunity to speak and enjoy Shakespeare’s words in short, accessible sections.

With drama, laughter, dance, music, sound effects (enthusiastically created by the boys) and magical fairies, it was a mesmerising afternoon—one we hope that the boys will remember for a very long time.
