Excitement always runs high for our annual sports tour to Jersey but this year the fun started before the boys even took to the skies thanks to Mr Barnes who pulled some strings as a pilot to get them a peek inside the cockpit before take-off.

The boys’ three-day tour was packed with sports, fun and friendship as they took on their hosts, Victoria College, in hockey, rugby and football.

The special relationship between Bedford School and Victoria College dates back to World War Two when 34 boys (aged 7 to 17) from Victoria College were evacuated off the island and spent the majority of the War at Bedford School. With the end of the War in 1945, they were able to return home, and be reunited with family and friends – though they did have to complete their exams and wait to the end of term in late July!

The friendships cultivated during those difficult war years have endured and are renewed each year thanks to this special tour, which means so much to both schools and many Old Bedfordians and Old Victorians.
