An inspirational session on Thursday 29 June, helped to open boys’ eyes to poetry and see it being performed in a new light.

Leading UK Hip Hop artist, performance poet and author Karl Nova, engaged boys from all year groups with his wit, humour and positivity in a series of sessions. Sharing brilliant, funny childhood stories, he spoke lyrically and entertainingly about growing up in North London and Lagos, Nigeria (the subject of his second book).

Karl encouraged the boys to seek out what inspires them to write and work out where their creativity flows and “paints pictures in the mind” – whether that is sitting at a desk with a beautiful view, out and about or on a packed London underground train! He also encouraged boys to find their niche – that thing they love, that could also be their job.

Karl’s sessions, full of laughter, brilliant performances with poetry and rhythm (RAP) and some incredible freestyling challenges, left the boys buzzing with ideas and a newfound appreciation of the many forms of poetry and performance.
