Our Ivy House Award Lower Sixth boys came together with peers from Biddenham Upper School for a special self-reflection event held in the Langham Pavilion on Wednesday 17 May.

Now in its fifth year at Bedford School, the Ivy House Award continues to teach students the skills to be self-leaders and help them thrive at the time when they need it most, as well as equip them for the future on whatever path they choose to take.

The aim of the session was to test the students to see whether they were able to apply the concepts they have learned throughout the award, namely demonstrating an awareness of their thoughts and behaviours when faced with a stressful situation.

Following a typical Ivy House ice-breaker activity which involved a quick-fire self-reflective activity, mixed groups were formed and given an ‘impossible’ task. The students attacked their task with vigour and enthusiasm before discovering the true aim of the session, which then led to some wonderfully open reflections and individual goal setting for the immediate future.

It was a challenging, but rewarding and enjoyable afternoon, in which everyone made meaningful contributions. The group will check in collectively again at the start of the next school year to hear all about how successful our future leaders’ summers have been!
