We are delighted to introduce a new and exciting initiative: the Global Citizen Group for boys in Y5-Y8.

Replacing the school council for these year groups, the Global Citizen Group offers an excellent opportunity for boys, supported by teachers, to develop their understanding, primarily through discussion, of a range of issues under the theme of equality and diversity.

Meeting once a month, boys who wish to be involved will build their understanding of world events, think about their values and what is important to them and take their learning into the real world. Through their discussions, and sharing these with their classmates in Tutor Time, we hope that boys will increasingly challenge ignorance and intolerance and take an active role in their local, national and global communities, making our planet more peaceful, sustainable, and fairer. Notably, the boys will also see that they have the power to act and positively influence the world around them.

This term, following expert talks, the boys will have the opportunity to discuss and share their ideas on the following topics:

  • January – Memories and Victims of the Holocaust
  • February – LGBTQ+ History
  • March – Women’s History
  • April – Autism Awareness
  • May – Mental Health
  • June – World Environmental Day

“We all live with the objective of being happy; our lives are all different and yet the same. ”

Anne Frank

Headmaster, Ian Silk, explained, “We are excited to discuss these critical issues with the boys and share in their perspectives and ideas, and along the way help them to develop the knowledge, skills and values they need to engage with the world. The Global Citizen Group promises to be an exciting initiative that will help our boys to understand how they can become global citizens and, crucially, that they can all make a real difference.”
