We were delighted to host and compete in the English Speaking Union’s (ESU) Bedfordshire Primary Public Speaking Competition on Wednesday 15 June.

The 12 local schools participating were each given a different topic to present. The Bedford Prep team of Eben Clarke (questioner), Oscar McCartie (speaker), and Jacob Schouten (chairperson) debated the topic: ‘Space exploration is worth all of the money being spent on it by everyone involved.’

We are proud to say that the Y5 boys’ weeks of research, planning and rehearsals paid real dividends, as they were terrific in the face of fierce competition. Their opponents, Brickhill Primary, were worthy overall winners, but we are delighted to say that Eben won overall best questioner.

Miss Bamber told us after the competition, “We are immensely proud of all the boys and hope they put themselves forward for future public speaking and debating competitions as they showed much flair and natural ability.”
