It is Friday the 13th, the wind is whistling around the gothic Inky building, and in W16, the lights are eerily low – the perfect setting for a ‘writing spooky tales’ enrichment session ahead of Halloween.

In the optional lunchtime session with Miss Bamber, some of our younger boys enjoyed exploring what is meant by ‘atmosphere’ and what techniques a writer might use to create an ominous atmosphere. Using spooky pictures to inspire them, the boys had fun with words, using adjectives, metaphors and personification to describe the dark and mysterious scenes.

The boys left inspired and with the challenge to create their own short, spooky story – the most terrifying one will win a fittingly ghoulish, edible prize.

Friday’s session is just one of many opportunities throughout the year open to boys to explore new areas of interest or further develop key skills, enhancing their classroom learning and personal development. This week, for example, boys also had the opportunity to have a go at Italian over lunch, which went down estremamente bene by all in attendance!
