Inspiring individual creativity has always been at the heart of our art department, and if you have ever had the chance to walk around our studios and marvelled at the striking creations, you will see in the boys’ artwork that creativity and imagination have no bounds

Thanks to the hugely experienced and talented staff within the department, all of whom are practising artists, coupled with an ever-thriving schedule of art lectures from some of the most inspiring artists, regular skills workshops, and opportunities to visit some of the most famous art galleries in the world, the boys have never been short of inspiration.

Stimulus also comes in the form of social media – in particular the school’s art Instagram (@bedfordschool_art) and Twitter (@Bedford_Arts) accounts, which provide a regular flow of artwork from local and well-known artists, as well as pieces by the boys themselves.

A new feature on these is #DoYouKnow, where every week we post about some amazing, but perhaps lesser-known artists to inspire our young artists. We all might have heard of Da Vinci, Van Gogh and Picasso, but #DoYouKnow aims to bring the more obscure, but brilliant, artists into the limelight for more people to see and get to know. Please do give the accounts a follow to be sure to get your weekly fix of art.

If you would like to broaden your horizons even further, then do come along to the next talk in our Gilbert Lloyds series ‘Painter and Printmaker of City Life’ by artist John Duffin at 7.30pm on Thursday 10 February in our Erskine May Hall (EMH). John will deliver an illustrated lecture on his prints and paintings of city life over a 30-year career. He will discuss his journey from training as a Naval Architect for the Ministry of Defence to studying in London with the Britart generation at Goldsmiths’ College and onto establishing his own practice as a renowned printmaker and painter. Everyone is welcome to come along.
